New Contemporary Home
Whitelands, West Dorset
The house at Whitelands Eype is a replacement dwelling for a brother and sister who wanted to build a flexible retreat for all the family to enjoy in the coastal village of Eype, near Bridport in West Dorset.

The new house can be described in two parts; the northern portion is more angular, taking reference from Japanese domestic design and it contains the open plan living spaces with west facing views up the valley. Large sliding corner doors open onto a covered terrace area recreated from the previous house for the occupants to have a transitional space between inside and out, allowing connection with the countryside and passing walkers.
The southern wing is more organic and nestled in form, with a sedum roof and a curving stone wall that houses the cosy bedrooms with views into the woods to the east.
The entrance is into a central hallway in the link between the two parts, this leads through to a secluded rear terrace which enjoys the dappled morning light.

Completed in Spring 2024, everyone is delighted with the result. The house is low impact and efficient to run, designed with the integration of sustainable technologies and ecologically beneficial details at the forefront of our minds. All aspects of the design have been carefully considered and aim to be representative of the green ethos of the building and appropriate to its rural landscape setting as well as providing the occupants with a building that is a pleasure to be in.
