Beach chalet with timber cladding and curved roof at Eype Beach, Dorset

Making the most of a small space

A beach chalet in Eype, West Dorset

We were commissioned in 2016 to design this replacement chalet on the Jurassic coast.

It is a modest, sustainable building that takes advantage of the sea views and southerly aspect and uses the space creatively to fit in generous accommodation including a bedroom on the first floor with a large window facing the sea.

The building appears sympathetic to its neighbouring chalets in scale and design but stands out with the curved roof connecting the building to its coastal setting and surrounding rolling Dorset hills and importantly, fitting in the additional bedroom.

The chalet is a highly insulated timber frame building, clad in cedar and heated via an air source heat pump.  This now popular holiday let this offers a very comfortable retreat from which its visitors can enjoy the Jurassic coast from this special site in all weathers.
