Extensive remodelling to a chalet bungalow

Charmouth, West Dorset

This house in Charmouth began as a typical outdated bungalow that needed remodelling to take advantage of the fantastic south-facing site with stunning views of the Jurassic coast.

To create the open plan living space along the back of the house, we rotated the gable to run along the back wall, infilling the new smaller gables with glazing for extra daylight, then the balcony was rebuilt, with large glazed doors to connect the new space with the outdoors, and views beyond.

Downstairs the undercroft was brought into use, providing a useful self contained space and extra bedrooms with doors onto the lower terrace. At the front of the house hall a new hall connects straight through to the back leading you to the new heart of the home and the wonderful family space that takes advantage of the building's position.
