Small extension, big transformation
Trinity Cottage, Loders
Trinity Cottage is a project very close to home for our practice, and as such has undergone many design revisions to get it perfect for the occupants.
A historic brick and stone, slate and thatched end of terrace house in the conservation area of Loders, Trinity Cottage had been struggling to keep up with the demands of 21st century living. In 2025 it was about time for a complete refresh, some extra space, and to futureproof the house for another 100+ years.

We worked closely with the client to design a modest kitchen extension with a timeless design, making openings in the best locations to provide an open-plan feeling and contemporay kitchen-diner, while keeping useful wall areas and adding those essential storage areas. The back door has a canopy added for a handy sheltered outdoor area for taking off muddy coats and boots, which then leads into a mixed use, loo, utility and study area. The new kitchen is light and the new heart of the home, a breakfast bar at the centre for gathering, and french doors that open onto a south-facing terrace for alfresco dining.
Alongside the changes, the house has been upgraded with the latest technologies. An air source heat pump and new underfloor heating replaces the oil fired boiler, and will keep these open rooms cosy and warm in future using greener electricity.
