Project info +
We were commissioned in 2015 to work on this exciting project for a replacement dwelling on the village green in the centre of a south Oxfordshire village.
The existing house occupied a prominent position adjacent to the Church. The design therefore had to be sensitive to its location taking note of the many different scales, proportions, and materials of the surrounding village buildings. A dialogue with the local planning authority and parish was key to the success and support for the project.
Our client had lived at this address for 36 years and had an important personal attachment to the site and the village. It was important that we respected and reinstated something of the charm and character of the original house before it was pebble dashed in the 70s. The house also needed to accommodate our clients own changing needs so he could remain at the property for many years to come. Flexibility and environmental credentials were at the centre of the brief to secure the longevity of the new house as an energy efficient home to suit a range of possible future occupants. We were delighted to hear that the house had eventually achieved an energy rating of A+.
