Standing on the fringes of Snowdonia national park, this site enjoys breath-taking views of the mountains and valleys stretching out to the south.
A derelict bungalow previously stood on the site and was in need of significant work to make it even habitable, let alone to take advantage of what it’s setting could offer.
With vision and determination, the clients embarked on the project to upgrade and remodel the house completely. The brief was to create a light, bright house that was highly thermally efficient, flexible as a family home and connected to the landscape. They also wished to reuse as much of the existing building as possible to make the construction affordable.
It was decided to remove the roof of the existing house and replace it with a new roof. The higher ridge level would allow for a full additional level of living accommodation on the first floor, including a generous master bedroom with elevated views of the mountains and valley. Extensions to the front and rear of the building, new cladding and render and new glazed gables have transformed this house into a sustainable and contemporary family home with the flexibility to accommodate the changing needs of a growing family.
