The Long Barn is located between Bridport and Dorchester in West Dorset. The project is for the conversion of a barn as well as works to an already converted barn. The aim is to provide improvements to living spaces and a separate workshop, studio and gallery for a local artist and ceramicist.
The original features of the barn such as the trusses and stonework will be maintained and the building insulated with a suitable breathable insulation system made from woodfibre boards. The north facing glazing allows daylight to flood the space whilst avoiding any glare making ideal conditions for painting and making.
Concrete floors and storage areas serve the creative work space and a central sink and worktop bring together the painting and pottery zones. The separate gallery space is more formal than the messy workshop with expanses of wall and open floor space providing a suitable place to showcase the artist’s work.
